Case Study: Custom Generator Cover Solves Office Exposure Problem in the Field
Share
An oil & gas company reached out to Spotted Dog Sewing with a unique challenge: they had a field building with a large wall opening to allow space for a generator. But inside that same building was an office space and that opening meant the office was constantly cold, dirty, and exposed to the elements.
The Problem:
The wide-open entry point was essential for equipment access, but it created serious comfort and cleanliness issues for the nearby office. Wind, dust, and freezing air blew through regularly, making it hard for staff to work and impossible to maintain a controlled environment. Off-the-shelf solutions didn’t exist and a fully sealed wall wasn’t an option.
Our Process:
Spotted Dog Sewing worked closely with the team to design a custom solution from scratch, one that could:
-
Allow for ventilation around the generator
-
Be easily removed or secured in place
-
Withstand tough field conditions
-
Prevent the elements from affecting the office
We created two prototypes to troubleshoot fit, material behavior, and functionality. By the third version, we had a final design that hit every mark: the top section stayed secured, while the sides clipped on and off as needed for access or airflow.
The Result:
The finished product was a custom-fit wall cover that solved both the comfort and durability concerns. It blocked out wind, debris, and moisture while still allowing proper ventilation around the equipment. The client was so impressed with the performance and craftsmanship, they came back for more.
This project is a great example of what we do best: hands-on collaboration, rugged design, and custom sewing solutions built for the field.
